GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) – Contractors with the South Carolina Department of Transportation will start picking up flooding debris in the City of Georgetown on Friday, October 16, according to the SCDOT website.

SCDOT wants to remind property owners to separate debris into the following six categories:

  • Normal household trash
  • Vegetative debris
  • Construction and demolition debris
  • Appliances and white goods
  • Electronics
  • Household hazardous waste

Since contractors will be collecting debris by category, it is possible not all debris will be taken away at one time; return trips maybe necessary to collect everything.

According to the SCDOT website, you should not stack or lean debris on structures.

Remember to place the debris at the edge of your property if you do not have a sidewalk, ditch or utility line in front of your property.
