MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach police are investigating an arson at the Paradise Resort on Ocean Boulevard.

A police report outlines that on Tuesday around 11:15 p.m. a resort security guard was doing rounds to check each floor when he noticed black smoke on the north side of the building. He called the hotel manager who grabbed a fire extinguisher, started to put the fire out and called Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue.

Officials with MBFR said a group of plastic chairs outside were "maliciously" set on fire. The MBPD is handling the case, because it is an arson.

The MBFR urges business owners and homeowners to be cautious about leaving anything outside that could catch fire. The fire was not large but without someone quickly noticing it, it could have gotten out of control.
