Floods cause over $2.2 million in damage to Florence County

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A preliminary assessment showed that flooding has done an estimated $2,288,295 of damage to 182 privately-owned structures throughout Florence County, according to a news release from the county’s Emergency Management Division.

The majority of the damage in this initial assessment, an estimated $1,345,443 was done to single-family homes, according to the release.

Now that flood waters have receded and more areas around the county are accessible, damage assessment teams are expected to complete their full assessments early this week. Once complete, the total damage number is expected to increase.

It is anticipated to cost about $400,000 to return county-maintained roads to their pre-storm conditions, according to the release.

As of Sunday, over 1,000 Florence County residents have applied for FEMA assistance, and some have already received reimbursement. Click here for more information on applying for federal aid from FEMA.
