Acura driver charged with felony DUI after fatal motorcycle crash

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported an accident that killed a motorcycle rider early Sunday morning on SC-544 after colliding with an Acura.

SCHP said the accident happened at 2:25 a.m. The driver of a 1995 Acura was traveling west on SC-544 and attempted to travel left on US-17. The Harley was traveling east on 544, the Acura then attempted to make the left turn and struck the motorcycle.

The driver of the Harley is identified as 32-year-old Jonathon Kyle Martin, according to Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden. SCHP said he was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to the hospital and died from injuries.

The driver of the Acura, Osvaldo Delez-Colon from the Atlanta area, suffered minor injuries and charged with felony DUI.

Colon was denied bond Monday because he is a flight risk; Colon has the right to appeal.

    Florence County, (WMBF) - Florence County Emergency Management officials held a press conference at their emergency management center Thursday to discuss the  Pee Dee and Lynches River flooding situation. Director, Dusty Owens, said the Lynches River and Pee Dee river are on track to overflow by this weekend and anticipates the flooding being slightly larger than Hurricane Matthew in 2016.
