More rain causes worry across the area

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) We are tracking a cold front moving through the area through the day on Saturday. We could see widespread amounts of one inch across the area but amounts could exceed two to possibly three inches by Sunday morning.

The places that do see more than an inch will be very localized and hopefully in spots that can handle some extra rain rather than those areas that area still dealing with flood waters right now.

Rivers are still at major flood stage and although this rain shouldn't be enough to make the rivers rise up, the potential is there for it to happen. If it were to happen it would be minor and not cause any other issues than what we have already seen. If the rivers don't rise, something that will definitely happen is the time it will take for the rivers to recede. Adding any water to the already swollen waters will cause flooding to be prolonged.

As of right now we're not expecting this to be a big event. It will more so just be a nuisance to the area but remember the ground is VERY saturated and any rain that we see is likely to pile up quickly. Especially if you are caught under a heavy downpour for any amount of time.

Please stay tuned online and on air when possible. Again, download the WMBF First Alert weather app to stay informed on the go.
