The following is a Santee Electric Cooperative Facebook post from Friday, October 9 around 3 p.m.:

Rising flood waters have placed SEC power lines within reach of citizens navigating the areas around Gapway Road near Andrews by boat. This situation could have led to a lethal contact incident. Therefore, SEC personnel de-energized only the lines in question. This impacts approximately 77 members. Unfortunately, these services will remain off until flood waters recede enough to remove the public danger. While we understand the absence of electric service is never pleasant, it cannot be measured against the threat to human life. Please continue to treat all power lines as a threat to human life. These lines may become reenergized without notice.
