MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The City of Myrtle Beach reported a neighborhood water rescue Monday morning near the Grande Dunes area after a road has collapsed.

According to MB Police, the road was collapsed at San Marcello and Scala Court; officers removed residents from their home by boat.

Another Grande Dunes family is willing to take their own boat to help bring items out of their neighbor’s homes, with waters are up to six feet deep, some had to abandon them.

Floodwaters damage materials, leave mud, and other unknown contaminants, and promote the growth of mildew. You need to dry your home to reduce these hazards and the damage they cause. When your house floods, the water can wreak havoc on the structure of the house as well. According to the Red Cross it's imperative not to hurt yourself during the flood and the cleanup process. The water in this neighborhood was powerful enough to collapse a roadway.

Officials continue to urge people to stay off the roads if possible, and that is one of the reasons. If this road can collapse, so can a road you're on.
