HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Heavy rain is causing significant damage to roadways and sidewalks in northern Horry County.
The National Weather Service is warning that earthen supports near bridges and overpasses may give way. This is happening along the Highway 701 bridge. The access ramp from Highway 17 to Highway 9 in Cherry Grove is also starting to give way.
WMBF News Chief Meteorologist found a sidewalk that was collapsed by rain on Highway 17 in Little River.
SCDOT is reported that crews are working in Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Georgetown, Horry, Marion, Marlboro, and Williamsburg counties, with additional crews on standby as needed.
Bridge construction and inspection personnel are inspecting bridges throughout the district, and will continue to monitor throughout the duration of the storm.
