Bennettsville man arrested for operating illegal gambling house

MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man for operating a gambling house and possession of gambling equipment. Fourteen machines were seized including cash from those machines.

Sheriff Knight said, 54-year-old Charles Andrew Mcrae of Bennettsville was arrested for the operation of the gambling house including the equipment.

The MCSO and SLED raided the operation on Railroad Ave. Thursday. This is the second time in the last few months the same place has had machines seized by SLED and Mcrae received a warning from SLED at that time, according to the Sheriff's Office. 

Mcrae is being held at the Marlboro County Detention Center.

Sheriff Knight said, “ my investigators have been working with SLED over the past few weeks on several undercover operations concerning illegal gambling."

    The Conway Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating two people who allegedly abandoned their children at a Conway business on June 5. Kiwa Johnathan Davis, 51, of Conway, and Sarah Mae Smith, 36, of Myrtle Beach, are wanted for unlawful neglect of a child.
