Darlington man killed after driving into tree in Florence Monday night

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A 48-year-old Darlington man died after he lost control of the vehicle he was driving and struck a tree Monday night in Florence, officials stated.

James Lenard Arnold was identified as the victim of the accident that occurred at 8:42 p.m. Monday on Edisto Drive, according to Florence County Coroner Keith VonLutcken.

Arnold was driving at a high rate of speed north on Edisto Drive when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed over the opposite lane of traffic, and struck a tree, stated Captain David McClure of the Florence Police Department. The coroner pronounced Arnold dead at the scene.

The accident is under investigation by the Florence Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team, and anyone with information on the incident is asked to call 843-665-3191.
