71-year-old North Myrtle Beach man dead in fatal accident on Highway 22

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A North Myrtle Beach man is dead after a fatal accident occurred at 5:35 p.m. on Highway 22 Friday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Darris Fowler says 71-year-old Thomas Kelley died of mass trauma sustained in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sergeant Bob Beres says the driver of a 2010 Infinity sedan ran off the right side of the roadway, struck several trees and was ejected from the vehicle. 

The vehicle was traveling east on Highway 22, about one mile from the Highway 31 ramp, when the accident occurred.

The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

The accident remains under investigation by the SCHP.
