Drought busting rains possible into the weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) We continue to track an area of low pressure work its way onshore which will bring rain, heavy at times, to the area. Not only could this be a heavy rain, we are also going to be seeing gusty wind conditions continue through the end of the week with sustained winds of 10-15mph gusting up to 25mph possible. Upwards of 4, maybe 5 inches of rain could be possible by Saturday evening.

Florence is currently in a moderate drought right now with a rain deficit of over 4.5 inches for the entire 2015 year. For just this month, Florence is close to 2 inches below normal for the month.

In Myrtle Beach, we are seeing a rain deficit of over 3.5 inches for the year and just for this month we are already closing in on an inch below average.

As we continue to see rain shower after rain shower move in - upwards of 1-3 inches of rain could fall for the Grand Strand breaking our drought! In the Pee Dee we could see upwards of 1-2 inches of rain which would tremendously lessen the drought. Finally, along the border belt we could seeing anywhere from 1-3 inches of rain which could likely break the drought there.

Remember, locally heavy amounts of rain could fall by Saturday and with a dry ground, minor flooding will be possible. As a good rule of thumb, 'turn around, don't drown.
