The results are out for the latest study on obesity in the United States. According to the CDC, more than a third of U.S. adults are obese and around 17% of children are obese. The results are not good, but if there is any encouraging news…it's that obesity rates have remained steady and that South Carolina was not in the top ten of the most obese states.
However, it is an issue that needs to be a priority for everyone. Parents, educators, government leaders, family members need to be aware of the health issues that obesity causes and the healthcare costs.
Consider this: Unhealthy lifestyles should not be accepted. Portion control, healthy choices and physical activity must be a part of our daily lives.
Is it easy? Not always. But, it can start with a simple walk around the block or drinking one glass of water instead of a soda. We need to start making the right choices.
