FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A Lake City man was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly firing a gun towards his wife’s head at their home in Lake City on Monday night, according to Lake City Police Chief Joseph Cooper.

Samuel Lawrence Godwin, age 55, of Emily Road, is charged with attempted murder and discharging firearms into a dwelling, according to the Florence County Detention Center website.

Chief Cooper says around 10 p.m. Monday night Godwin got into a domestic situation with his wife and at some point he pointed a gun at her, threatening to kill her and himself.

Godwin fired the gun in his wife’s direction toward her head, Chief Cooper states.

The wife was not injured, she called the police and Godwin fled the scene.

Police located Godwin on the property and recovered a .40 caliber handgun on scene.

Chief Cooper says Godwin had been drinking at the time of the incident.

Godwin is currently being held at the FCDC.
