Scooter vs deer causes fatal accident near Florence Saturday, troopers confirm

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol is reporting a fatal collision that occurred Saturday, September 19 in Florence County that involved a scooter vs a deer.

SCHP reports the accident occurred on Bethea Road.

Coroner Todd Hardee said the accident happened just before midnight near the Darlington/Florence county line and the Bethea Baptist home in Darlington County.

The passenger, 66-year-old Randall Simpson, was transported to McLeod hospital and died from his injuries, according to Hardee. The driver of the scooter was also taken to the hospital, the SCHP said.
