Santee Cooper: power restored to Myrtle Beach areas

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Two pieces of equipment failed Wednesday afternoon affecting three substations and causing multiple power outages in the Myrtle Beach area, according to Santee Cooper spokesperson Nicole Aiello.

Battalion Chief Brian VanAernem of Horry County Fire Rescue confirms a transformer caught fire on Waterside Drive around 2:45 p.m.; Santee Cooper confirms the transformer fire is connected to the outages.

Multiple traffic lights were being reported out due to the outages, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department Facebook page.

The MBPD Facebook page stated officers were responding to those locations as quickly as possible.
