Coroner identifies 18-year-old man killed in Hwy 9 accident in Marlboro County

MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – An 18-year-old man was killed in a one-vehicle collision off Highway 9 West around 3:45 p.m. on Monday, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins, South Carolina Highway Patrol and Tim Brown, Marlboro County Coroner.

Brown said 18-year-old Austin Blackmon of Bennettsville died at McLeod hospital.

He was a senior in the Class of 2015 at Marlboro County High School, according to a news release from Marlboro County High School.

Blackmon was killed as a result of the accident. Cpl. Collins says he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

Cpl. Collins reports the 2000 Ford Explorer was traveling on Highway 9 West, about three miles east of Cheraw, when it ran off the road and overturned.
