Robeson County Sheriff's Office investigating homicide after body found in water

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - The Robeson County Sheriff's Office confirmed a body was found in the water Sunday on McQueen Rd. between Mount Tabor Road and Shannon Road at the bridge in the water where officials say men were previously fishing at.

Anthony Thompson with the Robeson County Sheriff's Office said that several males had gone to the bridge to fish, the body of the male had been tossed over the side of the bridge into the water. The Fayetteville Police Department Dive Team assisted in the recovery of the body from the water.

Thompson said the identity of the male and his race is unknown at this time.

The Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of the unknown male as a homicide.

The RCSO said an autopsy is being conducted at the medical examiners office in Raleigh to determine the cause of death.
