HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Raymond Smiley, of Loris, was sentenced to 30 years for Armed Robbery, on September 10, after a jury trial at Horry County Judicial Center.
According to a press release from the State of South Carolina Office of the Solicitor Fifteenth Judicial Circuit, the robbery occurred on August 23, 2014 at the Wilco/Hess store in Loris. It was reported that Smiley approached the cash register as if he was going to make a purchase, but instead pulled out what appeared to be a pistol, partially wrapped in a paper napkin, and demanded money from the register.
The Loris Police Department responded and Smiley was identified as the suspect, according to the release.
According to the release, Smiley, who was released from a 20-year sentence on a prior Armed Robbery conviction nine months prior, later confessed to the robbery at the Wilco/Hess store.
The release also lists Smiley's prior convictions, which include, Criminal Domestic Violence of a High and Aggravated Nature, Assault with Intent to Kill, Housebreaking and Arson Second Degree.
