MARLBORO COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Marlboro County Council passed an ordinance at its meeting in Bennettsville Tuesday night to suspend the application of Sunday work prohibitions as authorized under South Carolina law.
"The intent is to allow Sunday sales of non-food items," explained Council Chairman Ron Munnerlyn.
Under South Carolina Code of Laws Chapter one Title 53 Section 160 (A), the county governing body can suspend the provisions of Chapter one of Title 53 making sales prior to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday legal.
Chairman Munnerlyn says this basically suspends Blue Laws in the county with the exception of purchasing alcohol.
The public will have to vote on this in a referendum for the decision to become finalized.
