DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) – It’s race day folks and many exciting things are going on at the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Bojangles’ Southern 500 at the Darlington Raceway.

Darlington Raceway and Americrown Corp. are partnering to offer fans three signature southern food items from the 1970’s, which include a pimento cheese sandwich, fried green tomatoes and sausage perlo, according to a news release from Darlington Raceway.

“We appreciate Americrown partnering with us to come up with these signature food items we think fans will really enjoy,” Darlington Raceway President Chip Wile said. “These items really embrace the history and culture of Darlington Raceway and the deep southern roots and traditions the track had in the early 1970’s.”

Americrown is using as many certified South Carolina state products for each item as possible, the release states.

“We took the original recipes for a spin and came up with these versions, which we feel the fans will really like,” Americrown Vice President of Food and Beverage Rishi Nigam said.

It’s important for Americrown to be able to offer items in our track’s markets that have local flare.”

When the green flag drops today at the Southern 500 it will mean more than drivers vying for victory lane.

All the electrical needs at the race are being met with 100 percent Green Power; it is being distributed by Pee Dee Electric Cooperative and generated by state-owned utility Santee Cooper, according to a news release from Darlington Raceway.

O’Reilly Auto Parts is highlighting classic cars at today’s race in its Race Day Car Show.

“If you are a car show enthusiast, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase your vehicle to the thousands of race fans that will be attending our Bojangles’ Southern 500 race,” Darlington Raceway President Chip Wile said.

According to a news release, these are the requirements for cars to be eligible:

  •    All cars prior to 1980

Four awards will be given during the show for the best car, which include Darlington Legends, President’s Choice, People’s Choice and Sponsor Awards.

“As we celebrate our history at Darlington Raceway, we want this car show to represent and honor the automotive heritage that the sport was built upon,” Wile stated.
