Construction begins on Walmart at SBB Four Corners location
MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - Construction has started on the new Walmart at the former SBB Four Corners site.
The Walmart Neighborhood Market is a little larger than a typical grocery store and will include a pharmacy with a drive-thru.
Some small businesses in the area are hoping the Walmart will bring them more customers, but are still concerned about the heavy traffic.
"Since they are widening [the roads] hopefully with more lanes, maybe the traffic will run a little more smoother, and be a good thing,” said Land Hurley. "We don’t know yet. There’s going to be more traffic because of the Walmart. So it’s kind of hard to guess what the final end result will be.”
Hurley works at the Haynes Sign Co. across the street from the former SBB Four Corners site.
A Walmart spokesperson says the area will see their new Walmart Neighborhood Market in a little less than a year and it will also bring around 95 jobs to the area.
Lisa Bourcier with Horry County Government says the building permits have been issued but are still waiting to be picked up by the contractor.
