ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – A three-year-old Clarendon girl was killed Monday, August 31, around 10:25 a.m. in a vehicle accident on Old Whiteville Road (State Road 2115), according to Sgt. Hilburn of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
Jada Thomas, of Gamble Trail, was riding in a 2002 Ford pickup truck with her mother, Kellie Nicole Lowery, when she was killed, according to Trooper C.S. Covington who investigated the case.
Lowery was taken to South Eastern Regional Medical Center, where she was treated and released.
Lowery was traveling 55 mph when the Ford truck ran off the roadway to the right, over corrected and ran off the road to the left; the truck overturned and struck a utility pole about 3.5 miles east of the city of Lumberton.
The truck then came to rest on its right side with its top against a utility pole.
