ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – A Red Springs man and his daughter were killed Monday, August 31, around 8:51 a.m. in a vehicle accident off NC Highway 211 near Opal Road, according to Sgt. Hilburn of the North Carolina Highway Patrol.

Mickey Lee Oxendine, age 30, of Splender Drive, and one-year-old Caley Oxendine were killed in the collision, according to Trooper B.K. Covington who investigated the case. Oxendine was driving a 2008 Infinity SUV.

Maximino Garcia, age 28, of Red Springs, was taken to South Eastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, where he was treated and since released. Garcia was driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck.

Oxendine’s Infinity SUV was heading east on Highway 211 and Garcia’s Chevrolet truck was heading west on Highway 211; both vehicles were traveling about 55 mph.

The Infinity SUV traveled off the road to the right, lost control and crossed the center line in front of the Chevrolet truck; the Infinity SUV slid sideways and was “t-boned” by the Chevrolet truck.

Then, the vehicles came to rest partially in the roadway in the westbound lane.
