An officer with CPD detected a strong odor similar to that of marijuana coming from a building at 1518 Fourth Avenue.

According to a police report, the officer advised two additional officers to meet in the parking lot of the Conway Shopping Center; the officers then approached the area on foot and could continue smelling a strong odor similar to that of marijuana while standing on the sidewalk in front of the building.

After two of the officers knocked on the door, Bell came to the door and began speaking to the officers, the police report states.

The third officer then observed several subjects run out of the second story door in an attempt to flee the area onto the balcony; the subjects ran back inside the building after the officer yelled for them to stop and all subjects were detained.

Once the building was secured, one of the officers identified Carmaine Beaty as being the property owner. The officer then got consent from Beaty to search the property.

A subsequent investigation discovered approximately 3.7lbs of a substance believed to be Marijuana along with $7200 in cash and all items were seized.

The Horry County Sheriff’s Office assisted with transporting the male arrestees to the Horry County Detention Center; Stilwell, the female arrestee, was transported to the HCDC by one of the officers.

This case is still under investigation by the CPD.
