FLORENCE,SC (WMBF) – The man wanted in connection to last Thursday night’s fatal shooting that happened on Gladstone Street in Florence turned himself in to his attorney at Parham Law on Monday afternoon, according to Lt. Mike Brandt of the Florence Police Department.

Victor Bernard Johnson, Jr. age 25, of Florence, is wanted for murder and related weapons violations by the FPD, according to Lt. Mike Brandt.

Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken said the victim is 26-year-old Daniel Levern Waiters, of Florence.

The warrant affidavit states Johnson shot and killed Waiters at 807 Gladstone St after the two got into an argument, according to a news release from the FPD.

A neighbor, Leo Myers, heard that argument going on in the field next to his house.

"It was a good little crowd," said Myers, describing what he saw when he went outside to check on the situation. "I didn't know what was going on."

Myers said his own nephew was the victim of a shooting on the 900 block of Gladstone Street just four months prior. He said violence isn't something the area used to have a problem with.

"All the houses you see boarded up now, they were full," he said. "But since everything started happening, they started moving out."

Waiters was transported to the hospital after the shooting incident where he later died, according to the Florence Police Department and Coroner Lutcken.

"Young people against young people. That's basically who is killing one another," said Wanda Waiters, Daniel Waiters' mother. "That really doesn't make any sense. They have to think about what the family has to go through after that tragedy."

She said her son was quiet and kind.

"I'll miss him coming in the house, "Hey Ma, y'all all right?" and going right back out the door," she said.

The incident is still under investigation by the FPD and the FCCO.

Coroner Lutcken says Waiters body will be sent to MUSC for an autopsy.

Anyone with any information is asked to call (843)-665–3191 or Crime Stoppers.
