MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Beach Family and Urgent Care of Myrtle Beach is making plans to add three new office locations in the Myrtle Beach area within the coming few months.

According to Dr. Ronald Reynolds, President and CEO of the company, a volume increase and multiple requests from patients to open an office near to where they live is the driver of the planned expansion.

"We probably have a little bit of a shortage of primary care physicians already and then changes with Obamacare has basically increased demand for  people finding a physicians that might not have had one previously," explained Reynolds.

New offices will be constructed in Carolina Forest and in Surfside Beach and the office currently located in the Galleria shopping mall will be moved and will reopen on Highway 17 in the restaurant row area in the building which used to be occupied by the Oceans 17 restaurant.

Reynolds says he is trying to keep up with the demand to provide quality healthcare and medical services, that will be convenient for local residents and tourists.

"We have a very wide range of services that we offer about half of our practice is urgent care and the other half is primary care or family practice," said Reynolds.

Dr. Reynolds explained that the volume of patient visits is up significantly over last year’s totals and that there is still a need for additional primary care and specialty physicians in this area. Because of that unmet need, the new office in Carolina Forest will be developed as a multi-specialty clinic which will offer the services of a number of different types of physicians.

Dr. Reynolds stated that even though these practices won’t be urgent care in nature, the same high standards for excellent customer service delivered
in a timely manner will also apply to them. He stated,  “We regularly measure wait times and our patient’s perceptions of the service that we provide and we know how important these things are to them, along with receiving the highest quality of care”. The new Carolina Forest office will open this winter.

The new office in Surfside Beach will be located on Highway 17 and will meet the need for a family practice office and an urgent care center that currently exists in that area. The office will offer visits by appointment and on a walk-in basis and will have the extended hours that are standard at the other office locations. This new office will open in 2016.

Dr. Reynolds went on to say that even though the office located in the Galleria has been very successful, many patients still indicate that they have trouble finding it because it is located off of highway 17 and behind other buildings. The Oceans 17 site is much easier to find and has plenty of space available to become a multi-specialty clinic. It too will open in 2016.

With the new offices Reynolds says is the local impact it will have on the economy. "We're looking at 40 to 50 jobs new employees when all the offices are open, so there will be plenty of opportunity for individuals in the community with healthcare background."
