MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Hundreds of eager shoppers waited in line at the H&M at the Coastal Grand Mall for the new store's ribbon to be cut. Some showed up as early as 5 a.m. to guarantee they'd have a spot.

The line quickly grew from a couple dozen people, to more than 300. In the line, all age groups, from adults, teenagers, to small children - all hoping to be some of the first to see what the new store has to offer. However, the number one spot was quickly taken. Wren Stiles and Sydenay Leopard were the first in line, but not without some work. The pair showed up so early, they had to wait outside the mall for two hours. Both young women feel the store is just what the area needed, and before they would travel hours to get to an H&M store.

"H&M is probably one of my favorite stores and to go to H&M you know you have to go to Charleston or Charlotte, so now we have one at the beach!" Wren Stiles said.

 "We're excited," Sydenay Leopard added.

With what shoppers said seemed like a dance party, people poured into the new store. This will be the third H&M in South Carolina, but the Stores U.S. Expansion Specialist Patrick Shaner, sees how unique Myrtle Beach truly is.

"I think it's a great community, it's obviously a great vacation town," Shaner explained.

Shaner explains H&M strives to find the best location and fit for their shoppers - a goal he shares with the Marketing Director for the Coastal Grand Mall. Tammy Hyde says nationally, the typical shoppers are women ages 25 through 54. Myrtle Beach though, Hopkins says is different because you have to serve both locals and tourists.

"I think as far as locals, that aren't familiar with the brand, I think it will be a new educational process for them, so I think it's something new and exciting," Hyde said.

Something else for locals: new jobs.

"We've hired about 30 people locally for the jobs here at this store," Shaner explained.

As for tourists, Hyde feels a name people know, always helps.

"I think they will be excited to see oh wow there's an H&M here so when they are away from home, they get to come here and shop so it's kind of familiar to them," Hyde explained.

Some shoppers feel business will keep booming throughout the entire mall.

"I think this is going to bring a lot more customers, and numbers and money to the mall," Wren Stiles said.

Shoppers are hopeful a big-name store like H&M will prompt others to open up here in Coastal Grand Mall.
