FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – Investigators said a Florence man arrested last Wednesday was involved in the sharing of child pornography via file-sharing networks.
Roger Eugene Hewitt, 39, was arrested and booked into the Darlington County Detention Center on 10 charges connected to the sexual exploitation of minors, according to records and a news release from the South Carolina Attorney General's Office.
The Darlington County Sheriff's Office, a member of the state's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, made the arrest with assistance by the Florence County Sheriff's Office.
A search warrant was served and Hewitt was arrested on August 19, the news release states. Computers and related media were seized for further examination.
If found guilty, Hewitt could face up to 10 years in prison for each of the 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, second degree charges filed against him. The case will be prosecuted by the Attorney General's Office.
