PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) – A woman was transported to Waccamaw Hospital Monday afternoon after Midway Fire Rescue crews rescued her from a residence on fire off Baskerville Drive in Pawleys Island.
Midway Fire Chief Doug Eggiman says crews responded to a call around 2:35 p.m. about a structure fire with possible entrapment. The caller said they could see smoke coming from the door and hear the occupant screaming for help.
Firefighters pulled the woman from the house, after finding her lying on the kitchen floor, and she was conscious when she was taken to Waccamaw Hospital, according to Chief Eggiman.
Fire crews extinguished the fire within about 15 minutes.
Firefighters examined two workers at the residence for smoke inhalation, after they were unsuccessful at trying to perform a rescue prior to firefighters arriving on scene.
Georgetown City Fire, Murrells Inlet Garden City Fire and Georgetown County Fire assisted Midway Fire Rescue during the operation.
Chief Eggiman says he does not know the woman's condition at this time.
