MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - More than 250 wildfires are burning across the nation, most of them affecting drought-stricken western states, but according to an interactive map created by Esri Disaster Response, the Carolinas are also being affected by fast spreading flames.
One fire was reported in South Carolina. The so-called "Green River Road Fire was contained earlier this year.
In North Carolina, the map lists three fires. The Bald Knob Fire, the Wolf Creek Fire, and the Weed Lane Fire are all located in the western, mountainous parts of the state.
As listed on their website, this interactive map of US Wildfire locations and potential fire areas was created using streaming data from NIFC, GeoMAC, NHSS, MODIS, METAR/TAF, and the USDA Forest Serivce's Fire Modeling Institute.
