HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Police arrested a 30-year-old Summerton man on Sunday after he ran from a jewelry store at the Myrtle Beach Mall with three gold chains worth over $10,000, according to reports. Police are searching for the man's getaway driver.
Horry County Police Officers were dispatched to the Myrtle Beach Mall Sunday in reference to a man who stole $10,000 worth of merchandise. Police dispatch said that the jewelry store employee chased the suspect through the mall, and lost sight of him near the Bass Pro Shops. Mall security said that the suspect ran through the Hooters restaurant, and another employee said they saw the man ran into the woods.
Police searched the woods and moved in on the suspect from multiple sides, with tasers at the ready. HCPD officers and Briarcliff Acres Police Department apprehended the suspect with three gold chains still in his possession.
Tanniah B. Whitfield, 30-years-old of Summerton,SC, is now in custody, however, his getaway driver fled the area in a white '99 Ford Crown Victoria.
Whitfield is being held at the Horry County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
