HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A 30-year-old man was shot during an attempted robbery on Vesta Drive in the Arrowhead community in Horry County early Sunday morning, police confirmed Monday.
"A lot of people are concerned about their safety now," said a man, who lives in the area and wants to stay anonymous. "Once something violent happens and there are shots being fired in front of your house or next to your house, it's a little closer to home."
At about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, police responded to a home on Vesta Drive and learned the man was shot during the attempted robbery after being followed home from work at a bar, police officials stated in a news release.
The victim is expected to recover from his injury, police officials stated.
A witness reported hearing gunshots and seeing a newer model white Dodge Ram truck leaving the scene.
A man said he came home from work to find the road blocked off and police investigating the area.
"When you walked down, you had to tell them where you live and show them ID then they had to police escort you to your house to get in at 4:30 in the morning," he said.
He said it's concerning this happened so close to other homes.
"If there was retaliation and firing back, it could go into any of the houses and all of our neighbors were home," the man said. "They were all out talking to the police as well. A bullet could've just gone awry and taken somebody out inside their house."
Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call the HCPD Tip Line at 843-915-8477.
