MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Technical issues are causing flight delays to and from Myrtle Beach Saturday due to technical issues that took place in Virginia.
Airport officials in Myrtle Beach said the delays are caused by power outages that happened Saturday at the air traffic control center in Virginia.
The FAA said, it was directing high-altitude flights around the affected airspace. The problem was not believed to be caused by any accident or hacking, according to an AP article
FAA Twitter handle said, an FAA automation system that experienced problems earlier today is back in service. The agency worked with airlines to return to normal operations and expected to lift any remaining traffic management programs by 4 p.m.
FAA says it is continuing root cause analysis to determine what caused the problem and is working closely with airlines to minimize impacts to travelers.
