CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Friday marks less than a week away from two big things for Horry County students; the start of school and start of football season.

In Conway, thousands of parents, students, and staff celebrated both new beginnings.

They were there for the 26th annual Conway National Bank Kickoff, where ten area teams faced off to preview the season.

“Seeing the community come together, seeing everybody on one level, playing good sports, and having a good time,” explained LaRue Galloway as he watched over all the games.

Eagerness boiled over as the clock winded down, on not only Friday night’s games, but everyone’s summer break.

“I’m excited to go back to school,” said Savannah Fellows. “I can’t wait to see my friends and my teachers.”

Fellows is about to start tenth grade at Saint James High School, but her excitement this year is more focused on someone else.

“My brother is on the football team and he plays a lot, so it’s good to see him during his senior year enjoying himself.”

Others in attendance won’t be hitting the field or books this year either, but that doesn’t mean this night is any less special.

“It’s exciting as well for all the parents to get together,” said Myrtle Beach High School Athletic Director John Cahill. “A lot of them have played in this. It’s neat to see it come full circle.”

So with the countdown to enter the classroom almost here, thousands channeled that energy into what they know best; big hits, big cheers, and big dreams about success both on and off the field.
