UPDATE: Georgetown man dead after Highway 701 collision

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – One person is dead and another injured after a two-vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 701 around 3:05 p.m. Friday afternoon, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden reports 23-year-old Shadone Knowlin of Georgetown died of injuries sustained in the collision.

Lance Cpl. Judd Jones reports the deceased was driving a 1990 Acura and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 43-year-old Conway man was driving a 2014 freight line tractor-trailer and sustained minor injuries in the collision. He was transported to Conway Hospital.

Lance Cpl. Jones says the tractor trailer was traveling north on Hwy. 701 and the Acura was traveling south on Hwy. 701. The driver of the Acura crossed over into the northbound lane and was struck head-on by the tractor-trailer.

The accident remains under by SCHP.

Horry County Fire Rescue crews were on scene working the accident in Bucksport.

 Lt. Brian VanAernem said that the area of Highway 701 would be shut down for some time Friday afternoon.
