2 girls shot during drive-by in Loris, police say

LORIS, SC (WMBF) – A woman and two girls were shot at while they were in their car in Loris Thursday night; the two girls were shot and were taken to a nearby hospital, according to police.

At about midnight, Horry County Police responded to Bennett Loop Road in Loris, where the 18-year-old woman and two girls reported that they were sitting in their car when an unknown white vehicle approached their vehicle and someone started shooting at them, according to a news release from Lt. Raul Denis.

The two girls were shot and received medical attention at a nearby hospital, Lt. Denis said. They are expected to recover from their injuries.

A miracle, he points out, because the bullets could have flown just a half an inch in either direction and caused serious injuries to any of the females in the car.

The white vehicle that is believed to be involved was found nearby and is in police custody, Lt. Denis stated.

While police search through that vehicle and look at other evidence, the real key in solving this case is the help of the community. Police said people standing in the street during the shooting claim they didn’t see anything, the victims claim they didn’t remember anything specific to identify the suspect.

“Horry County Police are asking anyone with information about this shooting to call their Tip Line at 843-915-8477 (915-TIPS),” the release states. “Anonymous information is accepted on the Tip Line.”

This is the second shooting on Bennett Loop is less than a month - on July 27, an 18-year-old man was shot and taken to the hospital, according to police.
