Burglary suspect arrested after rash of break-ins in Garden City community

GARDEN CITY, SC (WMBF) – A 41-year-old Surfside Beach man was arrested Tuesday in connection with more several break-ins in one Garden City retirement community. 

Allen Loring Atkins, Jr. is charged with eight counts of burglary from eight homes in the Jensen’s Community. He is in custody at J. Reuben Long Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing, according to Horry County Police Lt. Raul Denis.

The warrants state that between May 27 and August 7, Atkins, Jr. broke into homes and vehicles in the Jensen’s Community and stole items including several televisions, DVD players, wood-working tools, and a jewelry box. The news release from Lt. Denis states that the items stolen were valued at over $5000.

Atkins was arrested on multiple counts of burglary and booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center, according to arrest warrants and jail records.

WMBF News reported on these incidents back in July, and learned that residents in the Jensen’s Community were taking steps keep their homes secure after the rash of break-ins.
