Man arrested in connection to fatal Hartsville hit-and-run

DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The South Carolina Highway Patrol says one man was arrested after a hit-and-run in Hartsville left one woman dead.

A pedestrian was struck by the vehicle Thursday, August 6, on Patrick Highway near Ousleydale Road.

The Darlington County Coroner, J Todd Hardee, says Stacy McLeod, 32-years-old, died from injuries she received when she was struck by the car.

McLeod was transported to McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, where she later died, according to the Coroner.

South Carolina Highway Patrol says 45-year-old Oscar Dolford was arrested Wednesday morning and was served a warrant for leaving the scene of a crash involving death. Dolford is being held in the Darlington County Detention Center, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins.

According to the booking office at the Darlington County Detention Center, Dolford had a bond hearing Thursday, August 13, in front of a magistrate court judge. Bond could not be set by the magistrate court judge due to the charge; a hearing will have to be scheduled for Dolford to appear in front of a circuit court judge for bond to be considered.

“I just wish they would come forward or if they won’t people that might know anything at all that could help police narrow the search that would be great for the family for her kids to have closure,” said Gracie Hill, Manager of New York by Slice shortly after the accident. McLeod worked at New York by the Slice for three years. The restaurant is raising money to help McLeod’s family.

 “Any money raised or donated to Stacy here, New York by the Slice will match. So if anyone wants to donate any funds to help the family or just to make the transition a little easy for them and her kids. Along with our own donation to the family we have decided match our customers,” Hill said.

Funeral services for Stacy McLeod, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church

McLeod was born in Florence a daughter of Jimmy Hodge and Kathy McLeod Peach. Surviving are her mother, Hartsville, Her father, Hartsville; one daughter, Hannah Sheffield, Hartsville; two sons, Zachary Edwards, Hartsville and Hunter McLeod Parker, Hartsville; two sisters, Kelley Hodge, Hartsville, Tara King, Hartsville; three brothers, Kyle (Chrissy) Peach, Hartsville; Kevin Hodge, Hartsville; Brandon (Caroline) Hodge, Hartsville; two nephews, Caleb Peach, Hartsville and Cody King, Hartsvile; Special family members, Perry & Judy Morris and family.
