Myrtle Beach Police Officer receives Life Saving Award

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach Police officer has been awarded a Life Saving Award for evacuating occupants from an apartment fire Wednesday.

Officer Timothy Balch observed heavy smoke coming from the attic area of an apartment building and notified dispatch immediately. Balch then proceeded to evacuate the occupants of three apartments.

Crews from the Myrtle Beach Fire Department arrived to the scene shortly after and extinguished the fire.

Two occupants of the building were led to safety without suffering any injuries, according to Myrtle Beach Police.

Officer Tim Balch received a Life Saving Award for his bravery and commitment to being First in Service.
