Dozens attend top ten GOP debate watch party

GARDEN CITY, SC (WMBF) - Dozens gathered to watch the GOP debate and even though they have some front runner republican candidates, they say it's too soon to know for sure.

A part of Thursday night's watch party was to talk up who might be a favorite candidate at this point. However, many people at the party felt now is not the time to be sold on any given candidate.

There were some top picks amongst those at the watch party. Ben Carson and Donald Trump were the most mentioned.

"I'm on the Donald Trump band wagon, I just think he-- Ronald Reagan was the best president we've ever had, and he was a movie star," Lester Leonard said.

Leonard is the owner of Chelsea Jo's Restaurant in Garden City. People met at the restaurant, signed in, and put on name tags. The goal, to make sure people are on the ball when it comes to the 2016 presidential election.

"Get to understand the candidate, where the candidate really stands, talk is cheap, actions speak louder," Michael Butryn said. Butryn is the organizer of the watch party.

Even though points were challenged, proven, and proven again, the group agreed the next president needs to have certain qualities.

"Would have to have a belief, they would have to believe our country was paramount and extremely the best country there is in this world, they have to look back at how people have suffered and have died, they have to respect the military and they have to respect human life," Judy Clarke said.

The watch party's organizer mike Butryn feels watching in groups really helps people open their minds to different ideas and points they might not have thought of if they were at home watching alone. His goal, creating as many informed voters as possible.

"One that is knowledgeable of every candidate, their good points, their bad points, and see how they would apply that, for the better of America," Butryn said.

Now this won't be the only watch party. This group plans to meet for every political debate up until they hit the polls and they guarantee, they'll know everything they need to know about each candidate before it comes time to chose the next president.
