FCSO: drug dealer crashes into convenience store trying to escape jail

FLORENCE, COUNTY SC (WMBF) - A Sumter man is facing drug related charges after deputies said he crashed his vehicle in to a convenience store.

“He had come in the store and made those two purchases and went outside and started rolling his marijuana cigarette,” Jeff Lee, owner of the Interstate Convenience store said.

Deputies said 27-year-old Virgil Erp was parked near an undercover officer when he started rolling his blunt in the Interstate Convenience store parking lot.

“The officer in one of the unmarked cars, observed him with some marijuana and attempted to arrest him by blocking him in. He rammed the patrol car and drove wildly up onto the side walk through the front end of the store,” Lee said.

Lee said the entire accident was caught on video surveillance.

WMBF News obtained a copy of the footage.

In the footage, you can see some customers almost being hit by the vehicle as it crashes into the atrium of the store.

“This angles show a good shot of the atrium a customer and his son had just walked out of the door choose to turn right instead of left and as they were exiting the right door the car came through the left door,” Lee said.

Deputies said in addition to the marijuana, they found 10 grams of heroin and 400 grams of powder cocaine in Erp’s Possession.

Investigators said Erp is now facing charges for trafficking heroin and cocaine.
