City seeks licensed contractors for housing rehabilitation projects

The City of Darlington has received assistance from the USDA Rural Development Housing Preservation Grant to assist very low and low-income resident homeowners within the city limits with housing rehabilitation needs.

Interested contractors are invited to submit qualifications and attend a pre-bid conference on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, at 10 a.m. beginning at the city administration building, 410 Pearl St.  At that time, the City will lead them on walk-throughs of the homes that have pre-qualified for assistance from this grant.  A bid opening will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015, at noon in the conference room of the city administration building, 410 Pearl St., and at that time the low bid(s) shall be awarded, provided that the bid(s) does not exceed the City’s cost estimate by ten percent. The City will negotiate the final price with the contractor.

For any contract over $5,000 the contractor is required to be state licensed.  All work will be inspected by the City’s Codes and Building personnel and final inspection conducted by an independent Certified Housing Inspector.  The City requires that all work performed on any house with HPG funds must meet the International Building Code Series.

The City of Darlington promotes fair housing choice for all persons.
