Williamsburg Co. deputies capture Hemingway man wanted in connection to shooting

HEMINGWAY, SC (WMBF) – Deputies with the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office captured a Hemingway man wanted for attempted murder on July 31.

Darrell Brooks, age 45, is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Mr. Brooks is charged for the shooting incident that occurred on July 24, 2015 in the parking lot area of Tracey’s Place located in Hemingway, according to a news release from the WCSO.

The 16-year-old shooting victim remains in an area hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Under South Carolina law, attempted murder holds an imprisonment sentence of up to 30 years and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon carries a fine of up to $2000 and an imprisonment sentence of up to 5 years, the release states.

Brooks is being held on bond at the Williamsburg County Detention Center.
