HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A 21-year-old man was shot during an argument on Northgate Boulevard in Horry County, and a suspect has been arrested and charged, police say.

Darius M. Carter, 24, of Myrtle Beach, was arrested for the shooting and is charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, Lt. Denis Raul confirmed Friday. He was booked at Horry County Detention Center on those charges.

Police responded to the shooting at about 3:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Lt. Raul Denis with Horry County Police. When officers arrived, they saw two people giving CPR and aiding the victim, along with Carter, the man who would be arrested for the shooting, according to the police report.

Officers detained Carter, who said he had a firearm in his pocket, the report states. An HCPD sergeant found a .38 caliber semi-automatic handgun.

Carter told police that the victim was acting irate. He told police the car they were in was then stopped in the middle of the road, and he told the victim to get out of the car due to his "irrational behavior." Carter told police that the victim threatened to beat everyone, and he was picking up objects to throw at people. Carter stated that he shot the victim. Several sections of Carter's recounting of the incident were redacted in the police report.

The victim is expected to recover from the injury, Lt. Denis said.

The investigation is on-going, and anyone with information is asked to contact HCPD’s Tip Line at 843-915-8477 or 843-248-1520.

Police say this is unrelated to the fatal shooting of a 29-year-old man at an underground night club in Longs Thursday morning.
