Snake to blame for more than 2,000 people without power

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Power has now been restored to more than 2,000 Horry Electric Cooperative, Inc. customers who had their power knocked offline in the Socastee area of the county. 

According to Horry Electric's outage map at around 11:00 P.M. Tuesday 2,005 customers lost  power due to one outage at a substation. At 1:00 a.m. no customers had been restored their power yet.  

Horry Electric Cooperative Inc. made this post to their Facebook page around  12:30 A.M. "It could be an hour or more before power is restored. The snake that caused the outage got into the insulators and burned up a switch. The switch has to be replaced. We appreciate the patience of the members impacted by this outage. Crews are working diligently to make repairs and restore power as quickly as possible."

According to their latest Facebook page post, "Power has been restored to the members served out of the Lake Ridge substation. The switch was replaced and repairs were made. We appreciate your patience! Have a great night."
