Smart grocery shopping means saving money in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Where you buy your groceries could end up saving you hundreds throughout the year.

Shopping in Myrtle Beach can get expensive whether you're a local or tourist. It's important to shop for the right deals to save your wallet in the long run.

How do you know which stores to shop at and what to buy at those stores? Many grocery stores have ads, but if you're in a hurry, more than likely you will choose the closest store to get your basic household goods.

Some basic items such as milk and eggs are something we normally don't think about how much we're spending on, but shopping smart could save you a bundle.

Below is a list of grocery store items and comparison to other local stores right here in Myrtle Beach.

Walmart:      Dozen eggs $3.34   Gallon of Milk $4.87

Target:         Dozen eggs $2.69   Gallon of Milk $4.49

Food Lion:    Dozen eggs $3.39  Gallon of Milk $3.49

Bi-Lo:           Dozen eggs  $3.49  Gallon of Milk  $3.29

Kroger:         18 pack eggs $3.49   Gallon of Milk  $3.49

You may not see a huge increase on some items, however other items can save you a bundle. For example: If you buy a gallon of milk from Walmart twice a week, that will cost you $38.96 a month, whereas if you buy a gallon of milk from Bi-LO twice a week, would cost you $26,32 a month. That leaves you a savings of $12.64 a month and 151.68 savings for the year, it may not seem like a lot going month to month, but at the end of the year those savings can be used towards a vacation fund you have been dreaming of.

If you are not picky about name brand products, going the less expensive route is your best option.
