Life Jacket Loaner Program being held in Murrells Inlet

MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) - Launching of the Life Jacket Loaner Program will take place in Murrells Inlet August 1.

The Life Jacket Loaner Program is to ensure the safety and educate boaters on the significance of wearing appropriate size and type of life jacket while boating, according to boatus.org. And to keep kids safe out on the water.

Over 575 marinas around the country, fuel docks, Boat US, Towing Operators, Army Corp recreation sites and other waterfront businesses lend out kids life jackets for the the weekend or for a day to families who need them temporarily.

The program is funded by donations from the more than half a million members of BoatUS and the general public.

The event will take place August 1, 2015 at Murrells Inlet Boat Launching Ramp.

According to Bud Shepard, the event starts at 10 a.m., with the unveiling of the Life Jacket Stand at 11 a.m.

Free Vessel Safety Checks will take place, along with free hot dogs and drinks from 10 a.m. until noon.

There will also be a "corn" tossing game for children.
