Below is a news release from The Loris Volunteer Fire Department:

The all-Volunteer Fire Department in Loris is initiating a new fundraiser for the updating of a new replacement Rescue Squad unit.

The LFD has been without a rescue squad truck since June 29th when a Horry County Fire Ambulance struck the Rescue Truck while responding to an emergency call.  The rescue squad truck is totaled from the vehicle collision that was investigated by SCHP.

With the unexpected early loss of the vehicle the LVFD sees a need to help update the services it provides to the Loris area.  The unit is primarily designed for vehicle accidents, extrications, and medical responses.  It carried the Jaws of Life Extrication System and other heavy rescue equipment.  It had responded to 50% of all emergency calls for the LFD in the past 12 months and is a specialized unit in this area.

We will be receiving some funding to help with its replacement.  But due to the age of the vehicle and unexpected loss we would like to ask for any donations to help in the updating of this replacement unit.  Currently we have equipment on our fire engine and a loaner vehicle from HCFR.  Community donations will assist the LFD to have an up to date equipped rescue for the Loris community.  Donations can be tax deductible.

Any assistance would be appreciative in improving services for our residents and travelers in the area.  If any person or organization is interested in donating please donate to the Loris Volunteer Fire Department attention Rescue Squad Fund P.O. Box 1144 Loris, SC 29569-1144.
