MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A 23-year-old man was arrested at Shuckers Raw Bar in Myrtle Beach after admitting to police to calling an African-American family racial slurs, and then striking a waitress when she asked him to leave, according to reports.

When police arrived at the Broadway at the Beach restaurant on the evening of Friday, July 17, they met with Dustin Lowery, who smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage, according to the police report. Lowery said he “had been joking” with an African-American family, and calling them racial slurs. He said he did not know them, but he didn’t believe they minded. The waitress told police that the family decided to leave.

Lowery told police the waitress walked over and asked him and his family to leave. Lowery then claimed the waitress hit him, and he slapped her back. The report states that Lowery is 6-feet-4-inches tall and weighs 260 pounds, 13 inches taller and 120 pounds heavier than the waitress.

A witness to the incident said that the waitress did not hit Lowery, and that he tried to leave without paying. There was an apparent redness to the waitress’s face, and signs that she had been crying, the report states.

Lowery was arrested and charged for third-degree assault and was taken to Myrtle Beach Jail.
